Camden High Street 1990

In 1986, Peter Marshall took us on a stroll around London’s Camden. Four years later and he was back for a mooch down Camden High Street. The Electric Ballroom is splattered with posters advertising music by The Blow Monkeys, Nick Cave and They Might Be Giants. Market stalls sell fruit and veg, you can get vinyl at Rock On, boots at Holts, original bootleg tapes on the street and yesterday’s fashions at today’s low prices. We saunter passed the punks, hippies, poseurs, psychobillies, rude boys and ravers. We end with lay down by the Regent’s Canal.

This Grade II listed cast iron bridge, probably dating from soon after the canal was opened in 1820, was restored in the late 20th century, its wrought iron stays replaces by steel and decking renewed.
