A history of Nottingham's Clifton Bridge in pictures

Emergency repairs are being made to part of Clifton Bridge after 'damaged steelwork' was found on Thursday, February 6. As a result, part of the A52 has been closed for safety reasons, causing major traffic problems for commuters.

So exactly how is old is the bridge?

It was formally opened on June 5, 1958 by Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy.

At the time it was the longest pre-stressed concrete bridge in the country, measuring 275ft.

With the addition of the west bridge, opened in 1972, the crossing became a dual-carriageway.
