Manchester's textile industry had to be increasingly inventive to compete against high levels of imports from EEC members and developing countries in the 1970s. Dressed for the races, but which races? If you like putting your money on the horses, it's the "Ascot" outfit complete with parasol. If it's the hard up hill push on the bikes you like, it's the "Pedal Pushes" outfit for you.
